I was born and bred in Chicago – as well as Chicagoland – in a non-theatrical, but certainly dramatic family. I’ve explored creative outlets since I was a kid. I began writing stories and skits for my friends and me to act out, and studied music and dance, all which eventually lead to being in plays. Later, I studied theatre downstate among the cornfields at Illinois State University, where I graduated from their nationally recognized theatre program. After sticking around an extra year in graduate studies, furthering my performance training, I followed friends to Minneapolis, a city with a strong theatre scene and healthy support for the arts.
I thought I would be in the Twin Cities for a few years, building up a resume, and eventually return home to Chicago. It turns out Minneapolis is a pretty great place to live and work. Life happens and I’m still here.
Initially, along with a few friends, I started a theatre company. As with most small, young companies, it lasted only a short while, but I’ve continued to use the name of Balance Theatre Project on those occasions when I’ve played producer.
In the Twin Cities I’ve worked with a number of theatres as an actor or director including Park Square, Walking Shadow, Sandbox, History Theatre, Girl Friday Productions, Gremlin Theatre, Theatre Pro Rata, Minnesota Jewish Theatre, and Pillsbury House, among others. I have occasionally worked in commercial, industrial or film projects, and created videos as part of a production or for promotions. I’ve written original scripts and adapted material for the stage, including the successful historical drama, The William Williams Effect.
I often threaten to write a memoir. Perhaps, some day.
When I’m not seeking work in a performance endeavor, I enjoy dabbling in photography, obsessively researching hundreds of years of my family’s genealogy, cooking, and hanging out at our lakeside cabin. I live in Minneapolis with my husband and our two rescue dogs, Kiely and Finoola. Adopt, don’t buy. Rescue pups are the best!
